| every year i plan on reposting this story on this day for this rest of my life, only changing the years. Three years ago yesterday a scared and worried 9th grader walked into a hospital that she's known since birth. This time was different than the time before, she wasn't going into the same office for a checkup, she wasnt even going for herself. The girl knew something was wrong because lately her grandmother had been so sick and the doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong. So trying to act brave, the girl, her father, and sister walked into the radiology office and sat down. The girl's aunt was in the back of the office crying, the girl and her sister sat impatiently waiting for their mother to arrive. Finally, the girl's mother walked in the doctor's office and sat down with her family, the girl's aunt joined them. They both had tears in their eyes as they both said, "Your grandmother has cancer." And at that time the girl's world came crashing down at her feet. What was she to do, the person that she loved so much and could always talk to was dying and there was nothing she could do. So as time stopped all around her she couldn't do anything but cry. What made it worse is when her mother told her that the girl's grandmother wouldn't make it to see her granddaughter turn 15. So basically the doctor's gave her 5 months to live. As soon as the girl's grandmother walked back into the waiting room, the girl ran up and hugged her and they both broke down into tears. And the grandmother wanted her granddaughter to be brave so she told her, "I'm still here, so don't act like I'm gone yet." She could always bring a smile to her family's faces. And in two months and two days of radiation treatments, reminiscing with her granddaughter, the best thanksgiving/family reunion ever, and many prayers from loved ones all over, she was gone. This woman not only made an impact on her granddaughter's life but her granddaughter's friends lives also, and will never be forgotten. Two years ten months and six days ago a scared 9th grader buried her grandmother in the snow, letting go of everything she thought her grandmother would miss, and then she smiled because she knew that her grandmother would always be with her and she would never miss a beat.--10/23/05 |
